Imagine a School System Created to Ensure That Your Child Will Experience Complete Success

It's pretty simple...educate for lasting knowledge; which means that throughout a students education you have to teach, make students correct their mistakes, make sure students understand their mistakes, make sure they are practicing the corrections, build upon what they have learned, repeat, etc.

Would you go to the doctor and just agree when he/she says "Okay, I'm going to open you up" without verifying that he/she understands the medical issue is first? I am sure you would insist on some tests before the surgery starts???

Then, why do we just send our children off to school; by some predetermined date criteria, on the whim and opinion of the kindergarten principal and without a clear understanding of our child's specific educational needs?

When children are in third grade they should be given a full scale IQ, Achievement and Cognitive abilities test. At that point educated decisions may be made to determine the best educational "path" for each child. There is NO reason why this could not be accomplished within the school year for the 100 or so third graders at each elementary school. This process should be repeated for all 7th grade students to ensure that each student is progressing appropriately for his/her own abilities and that they are still on the best path; for their learning style, needs and potential.

Currently, as a system, they wait until issues show up then might try to address them. If we wait until a student in middle school before it is "noticed" that they have a comprehension, reading or math disorder then precious time has been wasted that could have been spent helping that child work to his/her full potential; and now it might be too late to undo years of frustration for that child. Why on earth do we have so many who drop out before or give up beyond the twelve years that are required?

Stop teaching to the FCAT; start teaching to create a positive learning experience. Administrators drive the attitude of a school; so far my experience with middle and high school is not that they are eager or even care to create college ready students, rather it is to teach just enough to pass the FCAT and get the kids out of the school.

I think of it this way: No two people are the same so why do we assume that all children will learn the same way? If we really want to see success in our schools, a lower drop out rate and kids who are constantly challenged, some really big changes need to be made and QUICK!

Not everyone is meant to go

Not everyone is meant to go to college. Some children would be better off at l0 or ll to go and learn trades such as baking, cooking, tailoring, carpentry, etc. I have never regretted quiting school. life experience associate degree | online degree programs | online degrees | prior learning degree | Corllins University

Being educated is not a

Being educated is not a basis for you to be successful in life. There are many people who are financial procrastination that don't give importance to money. Save! Save! Save!! I always told myself to learn hot to save money. And that's what I am working for.

I work in engineering full

I work in engineering full time and tutor after hours. The best students have one thing in common: the parents are actively involved in their children's education. Too many parents in the US believe that they can just drop their children off at 1st grade and pick them up 12 years later and the kids will be all ready to make the next big leap into college.

YOU CANT AVOID LEARNING.

PROFESSIONAL CHARACTER ASSASSIN.

TAMPAMOM!

It's impossible to avoid learning; birds do it, bee's do it, even uneducated Al's do it. And the function of schools is to direct the pupil's efforts for the quickest and most productive acquisition of skills. We assume educators possess the skills they teach, but this isnt so.

If you want to learn how to write a scary tale I can teach you how to do it. I know the process as well as your mechanic knows how to change the oil in your car. And reading, writing, and arithmetic are easy to learn if the teacher knows what the process is.

All that tests reveal is where you are in relation to everyone else. Tests tell you nothing about how you got where you are or your prospects for improvement or decline; you may have a tumor eating your brain, and next year your test scores will be lower.

Mayor, The bees and the Birds "Do It" much more often Than I do.

Mayor, the bees and the birds "do it" much more often than I "do it."  I "do it" about every 50 or 60 days.  I doubt if the birds are as old (88)as I am.  Do bees and birds live that long?  God bless.

Its More Than Readin, Ritin, and Rithmetic Today

Al, you need to enroll in school again. The teachers added sex to the coursework and plenty of them will be happy to teach you the ropes.

Mayor, No Thanks. I Am Already "On the ropes" And In A Year Or--

Mayor, no thanks.  I am already "on the ropes" and in a year or two I will be COMPETELY OUT OF THE RING.  God bless.

Tampa Mom, Welcome To Our forum. It was a Great Post.

Tampa Mom, Welcome to our forum.  It was a great post.  I positively agree with you.  I knew God made me for mail order when I was l0 or ll years old.  I should have been taught NOTHING but English, spelling, history, geography, typing, literature, etc.  I did not need biology, math, etc. so I quit school at l6 rathen than waste my time on subjects I hated and had no use for.  Not everyone is meant to go to college.  Some children would be better off at l0 or ll to go and learn trades such as baking, cooking, tailoring, carpentry, etc.  I have never regretted quiting school.  I have been study vocabulary, literature, etc. for over 66 years. I did not need no "stinking biology, math, etc."  God bless.

My Father And His Four Brothers Were Born In Italy and Only-----

My father and his 4 brothers were born in Italy and only went to school for 3 or 4 years and then went to a tailor to serve as apprentices.  No aptitude tests.  They came to this country as highly skilled tailors who could make an entire suit or coat for men.  Here in the U. S. we have trade schools.  My uncle Tony and uncle Ralph became successful clothing factory owners and my father and Uncle Bernard worked for them.  The other brother, Uncle, John, died when he was under 25, probably from cancer.  They all seemed to love and enjoy their work and it paid well although it was at times seasonal. Me?  Hell, I can't even saw a button on but thanks to my love for mail order, I can afford to hire someone to sew buttons on or marry or live with someone who knows how to cook, sew, etc.  In the movie, "Houseboat", Edward Cianelli, tells his daughter, Sophie Loren, "I sent you to the best universities in Europe.  YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO ANYTHING!"  That's me.  Outside of owing a mail order catalog house and working as a mortgage specialist, I do not know how to do anything.  God bless.

It Is A Shame We Have So Many Americans Unemployed Today.

It is a shame we have so many unemployed today.  Although I did not need the money, I retired at 62 but I worked part-time in the mortgage business until I was 68.  I worked it out with my boss that I would work the last two weeks of every month and be off the first two weeks of every month so that my wife and I would be free to travel to Canada, Calif., Bermuda, etc.  My wife died when I was 68.  I worked part-time for a bank in Staten Island when I was 69 but when my girlfriend broke up and she left to go to Calif., I quit work and never worked again.  I miss not working and that is why, I guess, I spend so much of my time writing in this forum.  God bless.

Are You Unemployed? You should relocate. Many places are -----

Are you unemployed?  You should relocate.  Many places are hiring.  Where are these places?  In China.  They only pay about 60 cents an hour but, then, the cost of living is much lower than here.  Funny?  Hell, no.  Tragic.  This is a world I never made.  If I had made it it would be illegal to buy any product not made in the U. S.  This would not be too good for all the rich bastards here that are making all kinds of money selling products made in China, but it SURE IN HELL WOULD PUT ALL THE UNEMPLOYED BACK TO WORK but, then, of course what do I know about politics?  Ronald Reagan was the golden boy of the Republicans who loved the rich and hated the middle class.  Ronnie, baby, promised if we gave a tremendous income tax cut to the rich all the billions the rich saved would "trickle" down to the middleclass.  Well, the rich still have their millions they have saved with lover income taxes but the only damn thing that trickled down to the middle class was unemployment, foreclosure, tent cities, etc. But like I say, what the hell do I know about politics?  Ronnie was the brilliant one--brilliant at least for the very rich.  God bless.
